Danish Life Science Cluster

It is healthy to collaborate. And a key to solve complex challenges. Yet it can also be tricky to create, expand, and sustain. To solve this dilemma, we Danes very often use the power of trust.

So, to promote collaboration and transformation towards health and wellbeing, Denmark decided to create a new type of partnerships – the Lighthouses.

Among these, the Business Lighthouse Life Science was created to bring Danish stakeholders in life science together and enable them to help solve complex issues. This brings together municipalities, regions, hospitals, innovators, research institutions, digital developers, SMEs and global companies to share knowledge, ideas, and create change.

We consider trust and co-creation between stakeholders to be the key ingredients to empower people and communities to drive the transformation of systems...

We have built a Mission-Based Partnership because it has a high applicability to issues related to healthcare and the agility needed to work with flexibility to achieve the complex goals like the burden of obesity and mental health, but also health innovation, health equity, and health literacy.

This is our case, content, and outcomes that we present at the Tour de Health as the Danish Lighthouse Case.

Learn more from our innovative Pilot Projects
We have been able to initiate a number of groundbreaking pilot projects that show both feasibility and scalability of new types of community concepts, service models, and approaches. We have lots of learnings and advice based on our work to create practical implementation and build new paths to overcome challenges.

In addition – in our Report on Pilot Project Evaluations – we found that clear measurement of success and outcomes requires new models for performance assessments than traditional transactional partnerships.

Learn about a new model for key performance indicators
Key among these factors and partnerships are the ability to enable knowledge transfer between sectors, disciplines, and partners, and the ability to work in co-creative ways to extend networks, relations, and build trust.

This is a vital additional value creation in these partnerships and also crucial to the success, but often also the very elusive – and not measured – ingredient for systems transformation. We also believe that a systematic approach of action learning in partnership can be a stronger pathway for trust and transformation for life science communities across the globe. This calls for a new and more detailed set of key performance indicators (KPIs).

We will therefore also present a new tool to assess and lead public-private partnerships. We have built a new KPI Model for Collaboration and Change, which enables the partnership to:

  • report on a wider set of key performance indicators
  • better assess their internal and external progress and impact
  • better enable collaborative approaches that lead to learning, ideas, and implementation.

Or essentially, how to create trust for transformation.

Learn how you can join a global community for change
At the Tour de Health, we are also launching a new global community of practice on life science collaboration to promote cross-border knowledge sharing on partnerships, implementation, evaluation, and impact.

Learn more about our tools for transformation, our activities, upcoming events and much more; we hope you will join our global community to explore how we can collaborate to create global change from local action.

Tools for further learning – for you!
At our website, you can also find a repository of storytelling about our process, three reports on pilots, partnerships, and indicators, and a lot of useful tools to disseminate these learnings in a global or local context.
