Healthcare model and general information on healthcare system (financing, stakeholders, insurance): The Indian healthcare system is a blend of public and private sectors, aiming to provide comprehensive care to its vast population. The public sector, managed by the government, offers free or subsidized healthcare services, particularly in rural areas, through a network of primary health centers, community health centers, and district hospitals. Private sector is mostly concentrated in urban areas and provides quality and timely care, despite higher costs.

Cooperation between India and Denmark: Denmark and India entered into a strategic health sector cooperation (SSC-project) in 2024 with the objective of enhancing protection from health threats and access to safe, efficient and inclusive medical treatment in support of India’s advancements towards healthy lives and well-being for all at all ages (SDG3) and poverty alleviation (SDG1).

The cooperation aims to support India’s efforts to improve framework conditions for:

  1. prevention and management of AMR and Infectious Disease Preparedness and
  2. access to medical treatment through strengthened regulatory processes

 

The collaboration is based on peer-to-peer cooperation between health authorities in both countries. The cooperation also serves as a platform for enhancing engagement of the Danish private sector in providing health sector solutions in the partner country.

The Danish-Indian health cooperation is led by the Ministry of the Interior and Health of Denmark and the Danish embassy in New Delhi in collaboration with the Danish Medicines Agency and Statens Serum Institut. Indian partners are: Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, National Centre for Disease Control and The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation. The cooperation is financed by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC).

Mr. Pushpendra Rajput serves as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GoI, where he oversees the Medical, Dental and Nursing Education functions. A distinguished 1999 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, he brings 25 years of extensive experience, having held key positions across various Indian Ministries and State Governments. Mr. Rajput holds a Bachelor’s degree from IIT, an MBA from Amity University and a PhD in Strategic Management also from IIT.

Dr. Ramesh Aggarwal

Professor of Medicine, Lady Hardinge Medical College, Ministry of Health

Professor of Medicine at Lady Hardinge Medical College and posted at the DGHS, Non-Communicable Diseases Division, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. He heads the Medicine Unit at a 1500-bed tertiary care hospital and focuses on preventing lifestyle disorders like obesity, diabetes, and hypertension. With over 20 years of teaching, he has published 100+ papers, supervised 10+ international research projects, and serves as an expert on antimicrobial resistance.

Jeena Pradeep

Deputy Assistant Director General, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare

Ms. Jeena Pradeep, Ph.D. Scholar in Nursing with a specialization in Child Health Nursing, is currently serving as Deputy Assistant Director General at the Nursing Division, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. She brings 28 years of clinical nursing experience, along with 2 years of teaching experience at the College of Nursing, Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC). She is a Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) Coordinator and a National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) National Assessor.
