Cathrine Lofthus is Director General of Health of the Norwegian Directorate of Health, a position she has held since 2025.

She holds an MD and a PhD from the University of Oslo.

Throughout her career, Cathrine has held several senior leadership positions within the Norwegian healthcare system, including Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Care Services and Chief Executive Officer of the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority. Prior to these roles, she served as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Oslo University Hospital.

In addition to her national leadership responsibilities, Cathrine serves as a board member of the World Health Organization.

As Director General of Health, she is responsible for advancing public health, strengthening healthcare services, and supporting the development of Norway’s healthcare system through national policy and strategic initiatives.
