Niels Bohr Bygningen

The Niels Bohr Building

Completed in 2024, the Niels Bohr Building is a 52,000 m² state‑of‑the‑art research and teaching complex for the Faculty of Science at the University of Copenhagen.

Located in the University Park between Nørrebro and Østerbro, the building houses different disciplines of science such as biology, chemistry, physics, geography, geology, physical education, computer science, and mathematics – but also modern multidisciplinary professions such as molecular biomedicine, nanotechnology, and e-science.

The design purposefully merges academic workspaces, laboratories and collaborative zones to foster interdisciplinary knowledge creation, linking the university closely with industry and society. Its innovative architecture and open‑plan “modules” make the building a vibrant hub for cutting‑edge scientific education and research.

The architectonic concept of the Niels Bohr Building is inspired by the heritage of the well-known Danish scientist Niels Bohr and the international science scene he created in Copenhagen in the 1920s and 1930s.
