Maria Normand Larsen

MD, PhD, Clinical Researcher, Emergency Department, Herlev and Gentofte Hospital

Maria Normand Larsen is a clinical researcher at the Emergency Department at Herlev and Gentofte Hospital, specializing in Hospital-at-Home models and acute care.

She holds an MD and a PhD, with research focusing on how hospital-level care for acute illness can be delivered safely in patients’ own homes as an alternative to conventional hospital admission.

During her PhD, Maria contributed to the development and evaluation of Denmark’s first home hospital. At Herlev and Gentofte Hospital, she has continued the work with a randomized trial of another hybrid Hospital-at-Home model. In this model, a mobile acute care team from Falck assesses patients at home, with remote support from a senior emergency physician.

Her research combines randomized controlled trials with qualitative studies of the experiences of patients, relatives, and healthcare professionals. She is also involved in cross-sector initiatives in the Capital Region of Denmark, bringing together hospitals, municipalities, and general practice to strengthen integrated acute care.

Maria Normand Larsen will be speaking on November 19 at Herlev Hospital.
